How We Test and Review

Our promise

We're a small, independent editorial team focused on one thing: helping people sleep better. We don't publish a recommendation we wouldn't act on ourselves, and our rankings are never for sale. A brand cannot pay to be ranked #1, to be included in a list, or to change its score. (More on how we make money below.)

What we evaluate

Every product is scored against the same criteria, weighted by how much they actually affect your sleep night to night. For bed sheets, that's five things:

1. Temperature regulation — how cool or warm the fabric sleeps. Trapped heat is the most common sleep disruptor, so this carries significant weight.
2. Freshness between washes — how well the fabric resists the sweat-and-oil buildup that makes bedding feel stale by midweek. Most reviews ignore this; we don't.
3. Softness and feel — both out of the package and after repeated washing, because a lot of sheets start soft and turn rough.
4. Durability — pilling, thinning, fraying, and how elastic and stitching hold up over time.
5. Value — performance relative to price. A great sheet at a fair price will always beat an expensive one that only buys a brand name.

How we test

We evaluate products through hands-on use, not spec sheets. For bedding that means sleeping on each set across a range of conditions, washing every set repeatedly to see how it ages, and checking back over weeks rather than judging on first impression. Where useful, we compare directly against category leaders so a score reflects how a product stacks up against its real competition.

We also factor in the experiences of everyday owners — looking at broad patterns across verified buyers rather than cherry-picking a few glowing quotes.

How we keep claims honest

We describe what a product actually does — how it feels, how cool it sleeps, how fresh it stays, how it holds up. We avoid medical or health claims, and we're careful to separate what a material is designed to do from guaranteed outcomes. If we're not confident in a claim, we don't make it.

How we make money

TopBeddingReviewers is reader-supported. When you buy through some of the links on our site, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This is standard for independent review publications and it's what lets us keep our content free.

Crucially, these relationships are kept entirely separate from our editorial process. Commissions never influence which products we include, how we score them, or what order they rank in.
